Amber M. Norris PLLC, LCSW
Welcome
Hello, I’m Amber Norris. I am a trauma-focused therapist dedicated to providing evidence-based, client-centered care. My work emphasizes the relationship between psychological and physiological processes, recognizing the complex ways trauma impacts both the mind and body.I utilize an integrative therapeutic approach, incorporating modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). EMDR supports the reprocessing of maladaptively stored traumatic memories through bilateral stimulation, facilitating adaptive resolution and symptom reduction. IFS conceptualizes the mind as consisting of multiple internal parts and focuses on increasing internal awareness, reducing polarization, and fostering self-led regulation and integration. My clinical framework also incorporates psychosomatic awareness, structured symptom assessment, and attention to relational dynamics, including patterns informed by early attachment and lived experience. Treatment is collaborative and tailored to each client’s presentation, with an emphasis on stabilization, insight development, and long-term integration. In addition to trauma work, I have a specialized focus on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). My approach is informed by the research of Russell Barkley and Peg Dawson, with particular emphasis on ADHD as a neurodevelopmental condition and the role of executive functioning. I support clients in developing practical strategies and environmental accommodations to improve functioning across domains.
EXPERIENCE
I have been in clinical practice for over five years, during which I have worked with diverse populations across multiple care settings. Through this experience, I have found that my practice is best suited for individuals aged 18 and older. My background includes work in shelter settings serving young adults, as well as in a middle school environment supporting children impacted by socioeconomic stressors, including housing instability and food insecurity. I have also provided services within a community mental health center, working with individuals diagnosed with conditions such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, among others. My experience in community mental health was foundational in shaping my clinical identity and solidifying my commitment to therapeutic work, ultimately guiding my transition into private practice. In addition, I have experience providing support to individuals in hospice care, which further informed my understanding of grief, end-of-life processes, and the importance of compassionate, person-centered care.
